Weโre excited to welcome Sophie as our new Digital Project Manager at New Icon!
What’s your working background, and how did you come to work for New Icon?
I started out in Marketing in 2016, working for an in-house financial services marketing team. After five years I moved to my first agency as a Digital Marketing Manager working with big names in tech. Here, I was managing accounts and working as SME for social media management, copywriting and website development project management. It quickly developed into a Digital Project Management role, working closely with developers and designers to build out the agency’s web services. After two and a half years I decided to move to New Icon, wanting to develop my Digital Project Management career further, and head back to an office environment - and a very nice one it is!
Describe your job to a six-year-old
I work with a team of experts to build websites, apps and software for people who need them. First, I figure out how much it will cost and how long it will take. Then, I write down all the details so everyone knows what to do. While the team works, I make sure everything is on track and fix problems if they come up. I also keep the client updated so they’re happy with what we’re making. When it’s all done, we celebrate with a little party!
What are you looking forward to working on the most?
I’m excited to work on projects which genuinely improve people’s lives in some way. The client list and work in the pipeline at New Icon is really interesting, and I can’t wait to get stuck in and collaborate with my friendly new colleagues.
What tech breakthroughs do you think we’ll be seeing in the next ten years?
I love Formula One, a sport already using the latest tech. But in the next ten years I’m excited to see the advancements in AI and ML, and what real time strategy updates will be available. Weather and tyre sensors will become even more intelligent, and hopefully new tech may help to level the playing field a little. Or at least give us some races with the underdog on the podium.
Williams for one, are a team putting a huge amount of investment into tech and data analysis, hopefully we’ll see them lifting the constructors trophy again in the next decade. Watch this space…
What do you like doing outside of work, any unusual hobbies?
Nothing beats a long walk with a bowl of cheesy chips and a pint of lager waiting at the end. I also enjoy playing padel, cooking and scouring antique shops for unusual items with my partner.
Favourite film/TV show/podcast?
I love White Lotus (and may have visited Sicily last year because of it..). But what happened to the theme tune in season 3?!
Podcast wise I flip between The Rest is Entertainment, Miss Me and Off Menu.
What book should everyone read?
The Beach is an all time classic that I can read again and again. I suppose a lesson in the illusion of paradise is something we should all take?
